Hatton Special School Sensory Room

In August 2024, the charity was contacted by Hatton Special School in Woodford Green Essex asking if we could help them with a new sensory room for the children. We knew the benefit of such a room from dealings with previous schools and so decided to take a look and see if we could help. What we saw was a little bit depressing, as the old room that they were using was in a dilapidated state with old equipment and furnishings that had seen better days. After a long chat with the staff, they gave us a list of things that they required to bring the room up to date and be beneficial for the children.

At present, there are 200 children who use the room, and they are all either non-verbal, autistic, or have behaviour disorders, so this type of room is essential for the wellbeing and safety of the children. At our next Committee meeting we felt that the sensory room was so worthwhile that we were unanimous in agreeing to fund the entire project. In September 2025 we went to have a look at the finished room and found to our delight that the children in there were happy and calm and able to use the different pieces of equipment to make them feel safer and more secure.

The new room is a credit to the school and will give many more children the ability to derive comfort and pleasure for years to come.

Once again this demonstrates the type of work we do for the most needy children, all made possible by the help and support of our friends, fellow taxi drivers and our many benefactors throughout the trade and beyond.
